Earlier this year, Domestic Light was featured at the 30th International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA 2025), held at the SNU Power Plant in Seoul, South Korea. ISEA is one of the most important global gatherings of artists, researchers, and technologists working at the intersection of art and emerging media. Domestic Light’s participation at this edition tackles the project’s role in reimagining how data, light, and daily life can converge into poetic, participatory forms of art.
In this 5-minute video excerpt from the artist talk, Ian Winters shares the origins and evolution of Domestic Light—a global network of 99 sensors capturing the spectral color of light in homes across five continents. From a question born during a period of isolation—what is the color of home?—the project has become a shared exploration of perception, presence, and the textures of domestic light over time.
